A Day With DeAnna

This is DeAnna:
On Friday the 19th we toured our new school, Intercultura Samara Beach, and each took our assessments (we are all beginners and our assessments proved this)! The school is much larger than we had imagined and there are a lot of students (mostly kids in their gap years or adults). The campus is right on the beach and has many fun features (hammocks, picnic tables, covered gathering places, etc.) as well as nice classrooms that all have a/c (yay)! The school offers fun activities such as cooking classes, dance classes, yoga, and local hikes. We look forward to participating in these! They also offer (for payment) field trips to see dolphins, waterfalls, turtles, volcanos and more.

After our assessment and tour, we went directly to the beach (our favorite pastime) and enjoyed being pounded by the waves (it was a very high surf that day). As Olivia liked to say, she felt like she drank up the whole ocean (and maybe even dramatically said that she almost drowned five times). I promise adults were on hand for constant supervision.

Corey had to leave to take a work call and the older girls wanted to go home, so Sam, Lydia and myself stayed a while longer and played in the sand. This left myself and two kids with two bikes…..yikes that meant that Lydia was to ride on the back of my bike. Oh yeah, also we needed to pick up groceries (we have to shop every day or two as we have no car to bulk buy and transport, so shopping has become a regular occurrence). Well, we needed more groceries than hands to carry and this was the first time shopping without Corey to help speak and translate. I was very brave, found all I needed and even ordered in Spanish from the meat counter.

Then we had the puzzle of how to transport all the groceries with two bikes and two kids. It was quite a feat that I am very proud of to be able to load and haul all that we did back home from the store! I wish I had a picture (all I kept chanting in my head was “do not fall, do not stop, just get back home!”). Life is always an adventure here😊
